Skolioz - bu mushak-skelet tizimining keng tarqalgan kasalligi bo'lib, u umurtqa pog'onasi va ko'krak qafasining deformatsiyasi bilan tavsiflanadi. Ko'krak qafasining deformatsiyasi tufayli nafas olish paytida uning to'liq ekskursiyasi qiyinlashadi, bu organlar va tana tizimlarining disfunktsiyasi bilan birga keladi. Skoliozning dastlabki bosqichlarida rivojlanishini aniqlaydigan ob'yektiv ma'lumotlar yo'q. Skoliozda yuzaga kelishi mumkin bo'lgan oqibatlarni erta tashxislash va oldini olish bo'yicha ma’lumotlar mavjud emas, bu esa ushbu sohada tadqiqotlar o'tkazish zarurligini asoslaydi.
