In accordance with the memorandum of cooperation between our universities—S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University (KazNMU), Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan, and Abu Ali ibn Sino Bukhara State Medical Institute, Bukhara, Republic of Uzbekistan—a faculty academic mobility program was implemented at the Department of Nervous Diseases from February 24 to March 1, 2025.
As part of this program, the Department of Nervous Diseases at KazNMU was visited by Professor M.A. Artykova and Associate Professor N.A. Nabiyeva from the Department of Pediatric Neurology. The visiting doctors conducted seminars and lectures for second-year residents of the Department of Nervous Diseases at the university clinic “Aksai” and also visited clinical bases at City Clinical Hospital No. 1 and City Clinical Hospital No. 7. The educational program of our Uzbek colleagues was rich and diverse, covering the most relevant issues in pediatric neurology, including the most common infectious lesions of the brain and its membranes in children.

Professor M.A. Artykova devoted significant attention to meningitis, emphasizing that its symptoms vary depending on the child’s age—whether a newborn or an older infant. Meningitis can progress rapidly, and some children with bacterial meningitis may completely lose consciousness. Approximately one-third of newborns with bacterial meningitis experience seizures. Moreover, seizures occur in every fifth infant and young child with bacterial meningitis. The focus on infectious brain and meningeal lesions was particularly relevant due to the characteristic winter-spring seasonality of these diseases.
Faculty academic mobility plays an essential practical role in modern education. This experience is also beneficial for the teaching staff, as the exchange of competencies between colleagues introduces new perspectives and enriches pedagogical approaches, undoubtedly enhancing their professional skills.
