History of the Faculty and Spiritual Affairs

The Ibn Sino Medical Faculty and the Health Services Vocational School of the University of Health Sciences, established in 2019 as part of the Bukhara Ibn Sino State Medical Institute, are the first educational institutions founded within the framework of cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Turkey in the field of healthcare education. The Faculty was established in Bukhara, the birthplace of the great physician and philosopher Ibn Sina, who left a lasting mark on medical education over the centuries. Turkish and Uzbek languages are the main languages of instruction for our students. The medical faculty, which began accepting students in 2019, will graduate its first batch of students by 2025. In the same year, our Health Services Vocational School, which started admitting students, has successfully completed its 3rd semester.

2021 Samarkand - 2020 International Student Olympiad

The Bukhara Ibn Sina Medical Faculty of SBU participated in the Olympiad organized by the Samarkand State Medical University. During the opening ceremony, our Deputy Dean, Associate Professor, delivered the opening speech on behalf of the university.

The Olympiad attracted nearly 35 students from 320 universities across various countries, competing in 30 different categories. The competition was conducted in two stages. The first stage involved a 100-question test, while oral and practical exams were held in the second stage. The students’ rankings were determined based on the average score of both exams.

As a result of the exams:

Introducing 3rd-Year Students with Their Projects

At the 3rd meeting of the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty, 3rd-year students presented the projects they had prepared. The event was attended by our Prorector from Bukhara, Professor [Name], who observed and provided feedback on the students’ work. The projects were part of the students’ academic development, showcasing their research, creativity, and practical skills in various medical fields.

At the Bukhara Ibn Sino Medical Faculty, a panel discussion on the topic of “Healthy Eating” was held, featuring presentations by Professor Dr. Olcay Kandemir. 

Opening Ceremony and White Coat Ceremony for the 2021-2022 Academic Year

The opening ceremony for the 2021-2022 academic year at the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty and the Ibn Sino Health Services Vocational School of the University of Health Sciences took place on October 16, 2021, in the city of Afshona, near Bukhara, the homeland of the famous physician and philosopher Ibn Sina.

The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Peshku District, Vahob Hamitovich Qahhorov, Rector of Bukhara Medical Institute, Professor Kemalettin Ayd, Deputy Dean of the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty, and Director of the Ibn Sino Health Services Vocational School, Associate Professor Aynur Feyzioğlu, along with various distinguished guests. These included faculty members appointed to the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty and Health Services Vocational School, such as Professor Fatmagül, Dr. Varol, Dr. Taner Shahin, Dr. Ali Akda, Dr. Enes Akyüz, Dr. Murat Hasanoglu, and Turkish language instructors Ilyos Ordueri and Sat-D. Engin from the Maarif Foundation.

The ceremony began with the singing of national anthems from both countries, followed by speeches from the Governor Vahob Hamitovich Qahhorov, Rector Professor Dr. Shuhrat Jumayevich Tashayev, Prorector Professor Dr. Kemalettin Ayd, and Associate Professor Dr. Aynur Feyzioğlu. The speeches highlighted the importance of medical education and the collaboration between Turkey and Uzbekistan.

After the speeches, students read their presentations in both Turkish and Uzbek languages. Following this, they participated in the White Coat Ceremony, marking the beginning of their journey into professional medical education. The program concluded with performances of Turkish and Uzbek songs, followed by a local dance show prepared by the students.

Opening Ceremony for the 2022-2023 Academic Year

The opening ceremony for the 2022-2023 academic year at the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty and the Ibn Sino Health Services Vocational School of the University of Health Sciences took place on October 21, 2022, in the city of Afshona, near Bukhara, the birthplace of Ibn Sina.

The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Tashkent, Mr. Beklik, Governor of Peshku District, Vahob Hamitovich Qahhorov, Rector of the University of Health Sciences, Professor Dr. Murat Elevli, Deputy Dean of the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty and Director of the Ibn Sino Health Services Vocational School, Associate Professor Dr. Aynur Feyzioğlu, as well as leaders and academics from the University of Health Sciences and Bukhara State Medical Institute. First-year students and their families also participated in the event.

After the speakers offered their congratulations and well wishes, the first-year students took the oath, followed by the release of white balloons. The students then donned their white coats, and the ceremony concluded with a series of group photos taken by the attendees.

First-Year Students of the 2022-2023 Academic Year

The first lecture event for the first-year students of the University of Health Sciences was held on October 3, 2022, in Uzbekistan, marking the beginning of their studies. During the event, the Rector of Abu Ali Ibn Sino State Medical Institute, Professor Dr. Aynur Feyzioğlu, and Rector of SBU, Professor Dr. Cevdet Erdext, delivered congratulatory speeches. In their speeches, they highlighted the advantages of studying at our university since the establishment of the University of Health Sciences.

The first class for the students began with a presentation by Dr. Daisy Kelen. Following the lecture, the student who achieved the highest scores in the exams and interviews for the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty of the 2022-2023 academic year shared their feelings and experience with the audience.

Visit of the Vice President of YTB

As part of the Silk and Jewelry Festival, the Vice President of the Turkish Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), Sayit Yusuf, visited our institution during his stay in Bukhara, where he was welcomed by the Rector of Bukhara State Medical Institute, Professor Dr. Shuhrat Jumayevich Tashayev, Deputy Dean of Ibn Sino Medical School, Associate Professor [Name], and Assistant Director of Ibn Sino Health Services Vocational School, Dr. Papatya Kele. The Vice President of YTB, Sayit Yusuf, expressed his gratitude for the warm reception.

Following the meeting with the Rector, Vice President Sayit Yusuf participated in a presentation organized with the involvement of our students. During the event, he provided information about the YTB and answered students’ questions. He emphasized that the number of YTB scholarship students has been steadily increasing and highlighted the growing focus on quality.

Sayit Yusuf also stressed the importance of maintaining Turkey’s mission abroad and noted that our institution plays a significant role in defending and developing relations between Uzbekistan and Turkey. After the presentation, which took place in a friendly atmosphere, Vice President Sayit Yusuf met with the academic staff of the University of Health Sciences, which operates within the framework of our institution. Discussions were held regarding students studying in Turkey.

At the end of the event, the Rector presented a gift to Vice President Sayit Yusuf as a token of appreciation.

Sporfest 2022

Students from the Bukhara Ibn Sino Health Services Vocational School (SHMYO) and Ibn Sino Medical Faculty participated in the Sporfest 2022 Culture and Sports Festival, which was held at the SBU G and Gblhane complex. During the academic mobility program, students from Ankara and the Director of Eurasia, Associate Professor Dr. Aynur Feyzioğlu, along with Vice Rector of SBU, Professor Dr. Kemalettin Aydin, visited the Vice Rector’s office.

Navruz Holiday Celebrations

As part of the Navruz holiday celebrations, the academic staff of the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty and the Bukhara Ibn Sino Health Services Vocational School at the University of Health Sciences gathered for a traditional Hal Deca and Sumelek Navruz dinner. Participants expressed their joy at being together to celebrate the holiday.

After the meal, students studying at our university also joined the gathering, and the festivities continued with events organized at the faculty. In Uzbekistan, Navruz Day is a national holiday, and celebrations typically last for four days.

Visit of Dr. Ahu Pakdemirli

Dr. Ahu Pakdemirli, the wife of Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey, and a professor at the Department of Physiology at the University of Health Sciences, along with the wife of the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, visited the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty and the Bukhara Ibn Sino Health Services Vocational School.

Dr. Ahu Pakdemirli expressed her pleasure in visiting Bukhara and engaged in conversations with the students of the faculty and vocational colleges, wishing them success in their educational journeys. Before leaving the institution, Dr. Pakdemirli took a photo with the staff as a memento of the visit.

Visit of the President of the Higher Education Council

A meeting was held with members of the district and city councils of the Legislative Chamber of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as members of the district election commissions. The visiting delegation was led by the President of the Higher Education Council (YÖK), Özvar, along with YÖK Vice President Prof. Dr. Rahmi Ar, Secretary-General of COHE Süleyman Necati Akçeşme, Rectors of various Turkish universities, and the Deputy Ambassador of Turkey in Tashkent, Alijon Aksay.

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Dr. Murat Elevli, Vice Rector of the University of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Shuhrat Jumayevich Tashayev, Rector of the Ibn Sino State Medical Institute, and other academic leaders, including Dr. Aynur Feyzioğlu and Dr. Daisy Kal. During the opening speech, Prof. Dr. Erol Dekvar highlighted the importance of cooperation between Turkey and Uzbekistan, particularly in the field of education, and expressed hope that this collaboration would continue to strengthen in the future.

Prof. Dr. Murat Elevli provided information about the faculty and vocational school that began operations in 2019 under the initiative of the Presidents of both countries. Prof. Dr. Shuhrat Jumayevich Tashayev gave a presentation introducing the Ibn Sino State Medical Institute.

At the event, the visiting delegation members were presented with gifts. The ceremony concluded with Prof. Dr. Özvar being awarded an honorary professorship by the Rector of the Ibn Sino State Medical Institute. After the ceremony, the delegation, including faculty members and students, had discussions and took commemorative photos. Prof. Dr. Özvar expressed his appreciation for the research being conducted at the Bukhara Ibn Sino Medical School and the University of Health Sciences, as well as gratitude for the warm hospitality extended during his visit. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the title of “Honorary Professor” in Uzbekistan.

Summer Internship

Forty students from the Ibn Sino Medical Faculty and Bukhara Ibn Sino Vocational School of Health Sciences visited Turkey to strengthen their theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as to improve their professional skills and etiquette. After completing the training, a certificate presentation ceremony was held at our university’s Gulxan Minara, with the participation of Alisher Azamxochaev, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Ankara.

IV. CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) International Article and Book Publishing Contest

The Ibn Sino Medical Faculty of the University of Health Sciences participated in the CIS International Article and Book Publishing Contest with an article titled “The Impact of COVID-19 and Mortality Rate in People with Diabetes, Hypertension, and Cardiovascular Diseases.” Our student, Nodirbek Jiyanboev, won the first prize for his exceptional work.

We congratulate our student on his achievement and wish him continuous success in his academic and professional endeavors. This recognition underscores the high level of research and dedication at our faculty and highlights the contributions of our students to global healthcare discussions.

Snoring and Sleep Apnea: Current Diagnostic and Treatment Methods

Our Vice-Rector, Professor Dr. Mustafa GEREK, visited the Bukhara Medical Faculty, where he conducted a lecture for the students on otorhinolaryngological diseases. Additionally, as part of academic mobility, the Bukhara State Medical Institute organized a seminar on “Current Diagnostic and Treatment Methods for Snoring and Sleep Apnea,” which was attended by fifth-year students, specialty students, and academic staff.

Following the seminar, our Vice-Rector had the honor of wearing the traditional Uzbek attire, the “Kapan,” which symbolizes the rich cultural heritage of Uzbekistan.

Ibn Sino Health Vocational School Graduates First Class

The Ibn Sino Health Vocational School of the Bukhara branch of the University of Health Sciences celebrated the graduation of its first cohort. A formal ceremony took place at the Bukhara Youth Center, where 50 students enrolled in the anesthesiology, first aid, and physiotherapy programs experienced the joy of completing their studies.

On Friday, October 21, 2022, the ceremony was attended by a distinguished group, including the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Tashkent, the Governor of Peshku District of Bukhara Province, Vahob Hamitovich Qahhorov, the Rector of the University of Health Sciences, Prof. Shuhrat Jumayevich Teshayev, the Vice-Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Murat Elevli, the Vice-Dean of Ibn Sino Medical Faculty and Director of the Ibn Sino Health Vocational School, Dr. Aynur Feyzio, along with administrators and academics from both the University of Health Sciences and Bukhara State Medical Institute.

Following opening speeches and protocol, the graduation ceremony began. Graduates were presented with diplomas from the University of Health Sciences and Bukhara State Medical Institute (Bachelor’s in Nursing). During the diploma presentation, Maftuna Idieva, a student from the First Aid and Emergency Program, signed her name in the alumni register and received her diploma and honorary certificate from the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Tashkent and Prof. Dr. Shuhrat Jumayevich Teshayev.

Graduation Ceremony of the Second Cohort of Ibn Sino Health Vocational School

The Ibn Sino Health Vocational School of Bukhara, part of the University of Health Sciences (SBU), celebrated the graduation of its second cohort this year, with students completing programs in anesthesia, first aid, emergency care, and physiotherapy. A total of 80 students across all programs participated in the joyous occasion, which was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Turkey, Beklik, the Deputy Minister of Health of Uzbekistan, Uktam Ismoliov, and the Rector of the University of Health Sciences, Prof. Jasur Rizayev.

During the formal ceremony, graduates were awarded diplomas from the University of Health Sciences and Bukhara State Medical Institute (Bachelor’s degree in Nursing). The event marked a significant achievement for the students and was a testament to their hard work and dedication in completing their studies in various healthcare fields.

In celebration of “Health Day,” a walking marathon was organized in Bukhara, where students from the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine and the Ibn Sino Health Vocational School (SHMYO) actively participated.

May 9 - Remembrance and Appreciation Day

On May 9, in honor of Remembrance and Appreciation Day, students from the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine and the Ibn Sino Health Vocational School (SHMYO) placed flowers at the base of the Mother Moutamsaro monument to pay tribute to the deceased.

In the final stage of a competition organized by Bukhara State Medical Institute, the “ELEMENT” team, composed of students from the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine and Ibn Sino Health Vocational School (SHMYO), won the “Happiest Team” nomination.

A Visual Arts Club was organized by the students of the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine and Ibn Sino Health Vocational School (SHMYO). The club held practical workshops focused on painting and theater, providing a creative space for students to express their artistic talents.

Visit to Bukhara Regional Oncology Dispensary

During the month of Ramadan, third-year students from the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine visited the Bukhara Regional Oncology Dispensary. The students organized activities aimed at uplifting the spirits of the children undergoing treatment, distributing gifts, and spreading hope and encouragement.

Running Marathon

On March 12, a traditional running marathon took place in Bukhara city under the slogan “We run in one country, at the same time, with the same distance and one goal.” Students and teachers from the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine and Ibn Sino School of Health participated actively in the event.

February 6th Earthquake

In response to the devastating earthquake that struck the Republic of Turkey, students from the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine and Ibn Sino School of Health expressed their solidarity and compassion through artistic efforts.

Celebrating the Defenders of the Fatherland Day

On January 25th, 2023, students of the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine and Ibn Sino School of Health took part in the celebrations of Uzbekistan’s Defenders of the Fatherland Day.

Summer Internship

Between July 20 and December 31, 2023, 25 students and 2 teachers from the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine and Ibn Sino Health Services Vocational School from Turkey participated in a summer internship at hospitals affiliated with the University of Health Sciences. The students engaged in practical training in a variety of departments including general surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, emergency medical services, ophthalmology, anesthesiology, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, orthopedics and traumatology, pediatric diseases, and dermatology.

Throughout the internship, the students had the opportunity to attend practical sessions and enhance their professional skills under the guidance of experienced medical practitioners. The students also made use of the university campus’s library and sports facilities during their free time, optimizing their overall experience. Additionally, they visited significant landmarks such as the Atatürk Museum and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, enriching their cultural and historical knowledge.

The internship was organized in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Kemalettin Oydin, Rector of the University of Health Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Dek. of the G.D.G. Medical Faculty.

Medical Students National Congress

The National Congress of Medical Students was held in Bukhara, hosted by the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine at the University of Health Sciences. Students from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years presented their research with great dedication and enthusiasm. During the congress, there were 20 oral presentations and 16 poster presentations.

This event, organized and conducted by our students, became a source of great pride and honor for us. We congratulate our students and their supervising professors from the bottom of our hearts and wish them continued success every day.

Contemporary Approaches in Pediatrics

On March 11, 2023, a scientific-practical seminar on “Contemporary Approaches in Pediatrics” was organized under the framework of Eurasian UAM studies at the Bukhara State Medical Institute, in collaboration with the University of Health Sciences.

The seminar featured distinguished speakers, including Prof. Dr. Murat Elevli, Prof. Dr. Yulduz Y., and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adem Karbuz from Turkey, as well as Uzbekistan’s Chief Pediatrician, Prof. Dr. Dilorom Ahmedova. The event aimed to provide advanced pediatrics education for 3rd and 4th-year students of the Ibn Sino Faculty of Medicine.

The seminar, which was attended by university rectors, chief physicians, professors, specialists, and students, was conducted on a broad scale and served as a platform for sharing the latest developments and innovative approaches in pediatric care.
