Abstract

The aim of this work was to study the age-related features of the adenoid tissue structure. The study included a histological analysis of the removed adenoid tissue in children who underwent surgical treatment of adenoid growths. In patients of the first age group, the tissue structure indicated adaptive changes in the local immune system to external influences and the formation of a respiratory immune barrier - the phase of formation of a local immune response. In children of the second group, a weakening of the barrier function of the epithelium was observed, caused by focal squamous cell metaplasia, as well as signs of chronic inflammation with an active reaction of the lymphoid tissue and a pronounced immune response. In children of the third group, persistence of microbial agents in the crypts and the presence of inflammatory cells were detected, which indicated chronic inflammation against the background of depletion of the local lymphoid apparatus. Thus, changes in the adenoid tissue are considered as a manifestation of a local im mune response to the influence of external factors.
