Abstract
This study is a systematic review of the literature to evaluate the use of the laparo-scopic approach in the treatment of such cases, as well as to evaluate its safety and feasibility. A sys-tematic search of the literature reporting on the laparoscopic treatment of strangulated inguinal her-nias showed that acute inguinal hernias are a common manifestation of urgent surgical care, which is usually treated with open surgery. In recent years, the laparoscopic approach has been described by several authors, but has generated controversy among surgeons. We describe the laparoscopic ap-proach to incarcerated/incarcerated inguinal hernias based on a review of the literature regarding its applicability in the laparoscopic treatment of incarcerated hernias. In summary, it can be concluded that laparoscopic repair of strangulated inguinal hernias is a feasible procedure with acceptable re-sults; however, its efficacy requires further study, ideally through larger multicenter randomized con-trolled trials.
