On December 16, 2021, the Bukhara State Medical Institute was admitted to the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR). The ICUDDR is a global consortium of universities providing undergraduate and postgraduate education in evidence-based knowledge about the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders. The Consortium provides a collaborative forum to support and share curricula and experiences in teaching and learning this knowledge, and stimulates the recruitment of professionals interested in research, prevention and treatment of substance use disorders. Members of the Consortium gain access to profiles of other university programs for the study of drug addiction and exchange information on course content, academic standards, as well as certification and international certification systems for specialists in the field of drug dependence prevention and treatment.
Thanks to its participation in ICUDDR, the Bukhara State Medical Institute was the first in Uzbekistan to receive the right to teach international certification courses in addiction medicine approved by World Health Organization, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the COLOMBO Plan. After the implementation of the necessary adaptation of training materials, BSMI ( Bukhara State Medical Institute) will offer these training courses in Uzbek, English and Russian.
