SibSMU organized the first All-Russian Olympiad in pediatric urology-andrology using simulation equipment with international participation.

For two days, the All-Russian Olympiad in Pediatric Urology and Andrology was held on the basis of Siberian Honey using simulation equipment with international participation. This event is unique and was held for the first time in Russia.
The first stage of the Olympiad was by correspondence. The teams prepared a video business card with a duration of up to 7 minutes, in which they presented themselves, their university and the city in any form.

During the face-to-face competitions, senior teams from medical universities in Moscow, Kemerovo, Barnaul, Omsk, Astana, Bukhara, Tomsk passed 8 stations where they demonstrated the skills of conducting basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation in children, cystoscopy and kidney stenting, paraphimosis reduction, nephrectomy on a virtual simulator.

The participants solved clinical cases at a multi-profile virtual clinic, described excretory urograms and found a way out of difficult communication tasks at an outpatient appointment with a simulated patient, acting as a pediatric urologist-andrologist. In addition, a master class on communication skills using a virtual robot simulator was held for students.

“Pediatric urology-andrology is a separate and rapidly developing specialty that requires constant development of practical skills. That is why SibSMU organized the Olympiad for the first time in Russia, where all competitive tests are conducted on simulation equipment, which is a unique experience for our country. It is worth noting that many of the models and cases used at the Olympic stations are the author’s designs of the staff of the IACC SibSMU,” said the head of the IACC Yana Shikunova.

The work of the teams was evaluated by the main regional and regional pediatric surgeons and pediatric urologists-andrologists from Moscow, Krasnodar, Perm, Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Barnaul, Omsk and Astana.

Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgical Diseases Grigory Slizovsky, Head of the Department of General and Pediatric Urology-Andrology Vyacheslav Boschenko and Associate Professor of the Department of General and Pediatric Urology-Andrology Svetlana Isaeva acted as the jury from SibSMU.

According to the results of the competitive tests, the first place was taken by the team from SibSMU “Prostamol”, the second place was shared by the team from Omsk “Juventus” and participants from Bukhara “Avicenna”, the third place in the course of a hard struggle went to the team “Astana” from the city of the same name.

“We learned about the Olympics from our supervisor and decided to take part in order to prove ourselves and gain new experience. We believe that such events provide an opportunity to work out practical skills, to see how simulation centers work in other cities of our country,” concluded the participants of the Olympiad, the Renal Sufficiency team from Barnaul.

It should be added that the organizer of the Olympiad was the Siberian State Medical University represented by the multiprofile accreditation and simulation Center, the Department of Pediatric Surgical Diseases and the Department of General and Pediatric Urology-Andrology with the support of the all-Russian public organization “Russian Society for Simulation Training in Medicine. The Organizing Committee was headed by the head of the IACC, Yana Shikunova.
