History of the department

To the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a group of enterprising scientists, Professor R.M. Akhmedov of Bukhara State Institute of Medicine and Professor N.J. The Sharipovas applied for the training of a general practitioner/family doctor in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On September 4, 1995, with the help of the Council of Rectors of Republican Medical Universities, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Regional Bureau of European Consultative Services, Bukhara State Medical Institute was given the right to conduct an experiment for approving the UASH/OSH training program. During the preparation of the curriculum, a group of employees from the European countries (Greece, Italy, Sweden, Great Britain, Slovenia) and the University of Connecticut in Hartford (USA) within the WHO were sent to a one-month training course for the protection of mother and child health.

The founder of the department is Professor Sharipova N.J. While visiting a polyclinic located in the state of Minnesota, Farmington, USA, he became interested in organizing family medicine during practical training, and using the training programs of general practitioners, Sharipova N.J. took the initiative and founded the department in 1995. In the same year, Rector of the institute R.M. According to Akhmedov’s order, N.J. Sharipova was appointed as the head of the department and managed the department from 1995 to 2009. In 2009-2015, the head of the department was G.J. Jarilkasinova has been working. From 2015 to the present, M.N. Badritdinova has been working as the head of the department.

The purpose, tasks and activities of the department

To provide students of the graduate course with the knowledge and skills of outpatient polyclinic therapy on the basis of model and working programs, to teach preventive measures aimed at early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of chronic non-infectious diseases. To work as a family doctor in the primary links of the health care system, to teach the procedures of working with patients, advising them, and communicating. The main goals of the department are to raise students, clinical coordinators, master’s degree residents to the level of gifted students, prepare them for republican and international Olympiads, teach subjects in their field of specialization, and strengthen practical skills.

Achievements of the department

During the three-year (2022-2024) activity of the Department of Internal Medicine in Family Medicine, 1 doctoral dissertation, 7 candidates’ dissertations were defended at the stages of scientific seminars and diplomas were received, 5 employees of the department received the titles of associate professors and the status of full-time teachers. In addition, more than 500 scientific articles, 8 textbooks, 16 training manuals, 20 monographs were published by the department’s staff and co-authors, 2 grand projects, more than 30 EHM programs and commercialization were implemented.

Academic mobility

In April, Head of the Department M.N.Badritdinova and L.B.Saidovatomoni participated in scientific conferences and events within the framework of academic mobility to higher educational institutions of the Commonwealth of Independent States. In particular, they returned from taking part in an international conference in Kazakhstan, Turkestan, Akhmadyassavi University and Kyrgyz Medical Academy.
