History of the department

Department of “Children’s surgery” was established on the basis of the order of the rector of the Bukhara State Medical Institute on August 18, 1992. The head of the department is PhD. M.K. Ergashev headed the department until August 25, 2004.

On August 26, 2004, Doctor of Medical Sciences K.M. Mirzhanov was appointed as the head of the department. K.M. Mirjanov headed the department until 2014. The department worked as part of the “General Practitioner’s Surgery” department (head of the department, doctor of medical sciences, prof. Sh.T. Orokov).

From January 2014 to May 2016, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor E.E. Kabilov led. The department worked as part of the “General Practitioner’s Surgery” department (head of the department, doctor of medical sciences, prof. Sh.T. Orokov).

     From August 2016 to this day, the department was headed by DSc, prof. Conducted by Farkhod Sayidovich Raupov. Until August 2018, the department operated as part of the “Pediatrics” department (head of the department, doctor of medical sciences, professor Sh.I. Navro’zova). From August 2018 to August 2021, the department became part of the “Traumatology and Children’s Surgery” department.

    In 2021, the department of “Children’s surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology and resuscitation” was established by decree of the Rector of BuxDTI, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Sh.J.Teshaev. Until now, the following assistants of children’s surgeons in the department: A.D. Dilmurodov, J.V. Vosiyev, R.N. Faizullaev, Kh.Kh. Kurbanov, G.K. Alikulov, Ph.D., K.K. Koziyev, Ph.D. K.R. Karimov, U. Kadirov, J.B. Goyibov, A.A. Aslanov, U.Sh. Choriev, L.G. Achilov worked.

    From 2022 to today, children’s surgery has been separated as a separate department and has been operating as the “Children’s surgery and neurosurgery” department. Educational work

The department carries out an educational process that includes all sections of pediatric surgery – neonatal surgery, emergency and planned surgery, urology, purulent-septic surgery, coloproctology, neurosurgery, anesthesiology and resuscitation. The Department of Pediatric Surgery is the graduating department of the pediatric faculty of bukhara state medical institute.

The main base of the department is in the department of surgery and neonatal surgery of the Bukhara Regional Children’s Multidisciplinary Medical Center, located near the Pakhtaoy park area, in the city center. In addition, our students are trained in medical skills at the Bukhara branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care. Both centers perform the most modern and complex planned and emergency operations in all areas of pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology and resuscitation. There are specialized departments – planned and purulent surgery, including specialized care for patients with urological and gynecological diseases, surgery and neonatal intensive care, orthopedic and traumatology, neurosurgery, anesthesiology and intensive care department, maxillofacial surgery, hemodialysis, ultrasound diagnostics, computer and magnetic resonance tomography, there is a 24-hour laboratory service.

The department employs 1 Doctor of Medical Sciences (DSc), 2 Candidates of Sciences, and assistants who have extensive experience in teaching, medical and scientific work. The main scientific and practical direction of the department’s work is pediatric reconstructive surgery.

Teaching material according to a standard curriculum using modern technology (stationary computers, audio and video equipment, multimedia projector, laptop). The material and technical base of the department is being improved, the teaching of pediatric surgery in English has begun, the students are students of the international faculty. All assistants of the department have training rooms in the above-mentioned sections of pediatric surgery. Students can observe the progress of operations in five operating rooms. The department has an endovideo-surgical stand, operating on the basis of the Bukhara Regional Children’s Multidisciplinary Medical Center. The department publishes educational and methodological manuals, which students use during practical classes.

 

Scientific work

The scientific direction of the department is reconstructive surgery of developmental defects in children. Coloproctology, pediatric cardiac surgery, neonatal surgery, and video endoscopic surgery have received new developments..

The department carries out the following scientific works:

 In 1991, Professor K.M. Mirjonov defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Secondary kidney disease in children” under the supervision of academician G.A. Bairov, a distinguished scientist of the Russian Federation;

  In 1998, Associate Professor F.S. Raupov, Professor A.Sh. Under Shamsieva’s supervision, he defended his candidate’s thesis on the topic “Ozone therapy for purulent surgical infection of soft tissues in children.”;

 In 1999, K.K. Under the guidance of Professor J.B. Beknazarova, Kozievdefended his candidate’s thesis on “Antireflux surgery for vesicoureteral reflux in children”.

 In 2021, A.T. Akhmedov under the supervision of Professor Sh.I.Navro’zovaand Dr. Aseem R. Srivastava (India) Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine (PhD) on the topic “Clinical and immunological predictors of the results of surgical correction of congenital heart defects in children” ) defended his thesis.;

In 2023, Ph.D., associate professor F.S.Raupov defended his doctoral thesis under the supervision of professor Sh.J.Teshaev and professor A.J.Khamraev on the topic “Optimization of colon resection in children taking into account morphological characteristics”.

    During the past period, more than 300 articles were published by the staff of the department in sources reviewed by the High Attestation Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Employees of the department give scientific lectures at national, all-Russian and international conferences, congresses and symposia. The student scientific circle is successfully operating, 5-6 lectures are presented at various conferences on pediatric surgery every year, in 2020 Takhmina Arziyeva, a student of the Faculty of Pediatrics, participated twice in the republican Olympiads (1st and 2nd places ) won.

    Inventive activity – in the last 5 years, the employees of the department received 2 patents for inventions. 5 educational and methodological manuals and more than 20 methodological recommendations have been published on various departments of children’s surgery.

In addition, in February-March 2024, a group of students from the Kazakhstan National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov studied at our department on the basis of academic mobility.

On April 18-19, 2024, our department organized the 1st international scientific and practical conference “Innovative technologies of pediatric surgery, anesthesiology and resuscitation”. The conference was attended by a number of professors and teachers from the regions of Uzbekistan and various republics, in particular, from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, the Russian Federation. During the conference, the professors spoke and provided information on positive changes in pediatric surgery, new methods and technologies. Along with this, a number of demonstration operations were carried out jointly with foreign surgeons.

Medical work

All employees of the department manage thematic patients in clinical areas, perform complex operations in planned and emergency situations. Clinical practices and consultations are regularly held with the participation of the department’s staff. Scientific-practical and pathological-anatomical conferences are organized, and consultations are actively conducted by the department staff in all departments of hospitals and in outpatient settings. Meetings of the Association of Pediatric Surgeons of the Bukhara region are held regularly, where current problems and interesting clinical cases from practice are discussed. The fact that not only surgeons and anesthesiologists-reanimatologists of leading hospitals, but also doctors of regions, polyclinics and city hospitals, residents, senior students participate in the meetings of the association serves to guide them in the right direction of their chosen profession in the future. Also, the employees of the department take an active part in improving the qualifications of the employees of regional medical institutions and provide consulting assistance to hard-to-reach areas. Employees of the department regularly improve their skills in republican and foreign centers. They are actively participating in academic mobility programs. One of the indicative features of the department is the participation of the staff of the department in the Erasmus+ grant program of the European Union for the modernization of the clinical residency in the specialty “Children’s surgery” in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
