Fighting Corruption – A Bold Step Toward a Just Society
Today, combating corruption is not only one of the top priorities of state policy but is also closely tied to the civic stance and social responsibility of each individual. From this perspective, organizing educational and awareness-raising events in educational institutions—especially with the involvement of youth—holds great significance.
A recent awareness event held at Bukhara State Medical University focused on effective ways to combat corruption and on fostering public awareness of the issue. The event was attended by Maqsud Hamidov, Chairman of Uzbekistan’s “Adolat” Social Democratic Party; Gauhar Jarilkasinova, Vice-Rector of the university and deputy of the Bukhara Regional Council of People’s Deputies; Shakhnoza Po‘latova, head of the Women’s Wing of the party’s regional council; and Anvar Rahmatov, a lawyer from the Bar Association of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the event, participants discussed the negative consequences of corruption on the development of society, the need to improve legal literacy among young people, and the legal foundations for fighting corruption.
In his speech, Maqsud Hamidov emphasized that fighting corruption requires not only the efforts of law enforcement agencies but also the active involvement of the broader public, including political parties, the education system, and the younger generation.

Students and professors posed questions, to which specialists responded in detail. The dialogue was held in an open and free atmosphere, where it was repeatedly stressed that every citizen’s personal responsibility and ethical stance are crucial in the fight against corruption.
In his lecture, Anvar Rahmatov analyzed corruption not only as a crime but also as a social problem. He elaborated on the damage corruption causes to public administration, economic stability, and societal progress. “Fighting corruption is not limited to investigation and punishment. It is a process of building integrity, responsibility, and the rule of law within society,” he stated.

The experienced lawyer highlighted the importance of raising legal awareness among students and stressed that, in addition to theoretical knowledge, practical approaches, real-life examples, and open dialogues are essential to developing an anti-corruption mindset within educational institutions.
At the end of the event, it was concluded that the fight against corruption must be waged not only through legislation but also through ethics, culture, and integrity.
Events like these play a crucial role in strengthening young people’s sense of social justice and legal culture, and in helping them build immunity against corruption.
