At the Bukhara State Medical Institute named after Abu Ali ibn Sina, an important tradition continued – the oath-taking ceremony of future doctors. The event began in Peshku district’s Afshona village with the laying of flowers at the monument of the great physician.
This year’s ceremony was particularly significant, as it coincided with three anniversaries: the 1045th birth anniversary of Avicenna, the 1000th anniversary of his masterpiece “The Canon of Medicine”, and the 35th anniversary of the institute’s establishment.

Nearly 1,300 students were admitted to the institute this year across 8 majors, 60% of whom are studying on a state grant. The future doctors swore to remain loyal to their profession, to always be ready to provide medical care under any circumstances, and to act with honesty and responsibility.
The ceremony was attended by Rector Shuhrat Teshayev, Peshku district governor Hayot Davlatov, professors from prestigious foreign universities, parents, and community representatives. Several distinguished foreign professors were awarded the special badge “35th Anniversary of Bukhara State Medical Institute named after Abu Ali ibn Sina”.

In addition, the traditional white coat ceremony took place, symbolizing purity and devotion to the medical profession. This tradition marks an important milestone in the students’ journey to becoming doctors.
The institute continues to develop modern facilities for students’ learning and practical training. A newly built campus now includes a simulation center equipped with modern medical trainers, and several specialized subjects are taught in English.
In recent years, the institute has launched joint programs with leading universities in Russia, India, China, Poland, and Italy, signing nearly 50 international cooperation memoranda.
