Ophthalmology (from the Greek. “the doctrine of the eye”) is a branch of medicine that studies the structure and physiology of the eye, its diseases, methods of their prevention and treatment. Ophthalmology occupies an important place in medical science.
The Department of Eye Diseases was established on the basis of the decision of the Academic Council of the Rector’s Office dated 14.01.1993 and is based in the Bukhara Regional Eye Hospital. The department began its activity on 1.04.1993 with 4.5 contributions from the pedagogical and 1.0 contributions from the junior laboratory assistant.
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology was established in 2005 jointly with the Department of Ophthalmology. In 2014-2016, by order of the rector, the department functioned as the Department of ENT, Dentistry and Oncology, and in 2016-2018 as the Department of ENT, Oncology and Ophthalmology. Since 2019, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Ophthalmology continues to function. Since 2023, the Department of Ophthalmology has started functioning as a separate department.
The first head of the department, PhD, Associate Professor.Sharapava A.H., assistants Yakubov R.M., Iskhakov V.D., Dzhumaev E.E. conducted activities.
Since September 2022, on the basis of the order of the rector of the Institute, he was appointed head of the Department of Ophthalmology., Associate Professor G.R.Odilova was appointed.
Currently, the department employs 2 doctoral students, 3 independent applicants and undergraduates, as well as clinical residents. Associate Professor-Yanchenko Sergey Vladimirovich (since 2023), associate professor-Odilov Mirshod Yusupovich (since 2023), Associate professor-Ramazanova Shohibonu Shoim kyzy (since 2023), associate professor-Bekmurodova Orzigul Kamal kyzy (since 2023), associate professor-Ikromova Sofia Bakhtiyarovna (since 2024).
At the Department of Ophthalmology there is a circle of “young ophthalmologists”, which includes bachelors, masters and clinical directors of the institute.
Our goal is to teach students to recognize various eye diseases, prevent this disease, connect eye pathology with general diseases of the body, working conditions, living conditions, and a profession that allows us to determine methods for the prevention and treatment of diseases.
In recent years, the staff of the department has published 2 textbooks, 10 textbooks, 6 monographs, more than 50 foreign scientific articles, more than 50 scientific articles in republican journals, more than 60 scientific theses.
