Today is internatoional student day

When was the student’s first day celebrated? On October 28, 1939, in the Nazi-occupied Czech Republic, students and teachers of Prague marched in honor of the day of the formation of Czechoslovakia. A medical student was wounded by a bullet during the dispersal of a demonstration by the occupying forces. He was immediately operated on, but he died on November 11. The funeral will be held on November 15, and it will turn into a protest action. Dozens of protesters have been arrested.

In the early morning of November 17, Germans surround student dormitories. More than 1,200 students were arrested and sent to concentration camps. Nine student activists were executed in prison. Two years later, in 1941, an international meeting of students fighting Nazism was held in London. At the suggestion of the Czechoslovak communist Otto Schilling, it was decided to celebrate this date annually as Student’s Day in honor of the dead.
