Abstract
The present study is aimed at studying the influence of anxiety and depression in mothers on the effectiveness of parenting based on the mindfulness technique of adolescents. A sample of 20 mother teenage couples was collected among women with adolescent children who applied to the Mental Med Service clinic with various complaints (at the reception of various narrow specialists: neurologist, gastroenterologist, therapist and psychiatrist) including anxiety and depressive spectrum. Mothers self-reported mindfulness parenting technique self-assessment tests and anxiety and depression symptom scores, and adolescents (ages 10-18) completed a dispositional mindfulness test. Mothers with clinically significant levels of anxiety and depression symptoms reported lower levels of mindfulness technique involvement in parenting than mothers without mood disorders. Almost every aspect of mindfulness parenting has been heavily associated with adolescent mindfulness. These findings suggest that parental factors play a key role in the development of adolescent engagement skills and highlight the detrimental impact of maternal psychopathology on mindfulness parenting and its association with adolescent mindfulness
