Abstract

The transformation zone (ZZ) is the area of the cervix where the columnar epithelium is replaced or replaced by metaplastic epithelium. It is bounded by the original junction zone at the outer (distal) limit and the new junction zone (now called simply the ZZ) at the inner (proximal) limit. Although the GS as the proximal or internal boundary of the transformation zone can be very easily identified, the original junction zone is not so easy to recognize. The distal or outer limit of the transformation zone is determined by the location of the nabothian cyst or crypt lumen, which is farthest from the external pharynx. The length of ST depends on the woman’s age. In women of reproductive age, the ST is usually completely visible, and the ST is located on the ectocervix. With age, the cervix contracts and the cervix moves into the endocervical canal. As a result, the ST may be partially or completely located inside the endocervical canal. It is very important to correctly determine the ST, because all precancerous and cancerous changes in the cervix, originating from the squamous epithelium, are initially localized in the ST. By using a medicated vaginal ring, the formation of malignant cells in this area can be stopped.
