Abstract

The adrenal glands of intact rats and animals that received a single dose of levothyroxine through a probe do not differ significantly in weight. With a 15-day administration of levothyroxine, the morphometric parameters of the adrenal glands of rats are significantly different from those of intact animals. Administration of levothyroxine to experimental animals leads to changes in their adrenal glands compared to intact animals, which are expressed only in the last period of the experiment (15 days) and are manifested by the presence of edema of the interstitium, congestion of the capillaries, as well as some thickening and coarsening of the connective tissue fibers. Consequently, the above morphological changes may indicate a reaction of the adrenal glands in response to the administration of levothyroxine.
